Hope.

Life is full of twists and turns, and we are here for the ride of our lives, whether we feel ready for it or not. One minor decision has the potential to lead us down a brand-new road, over the river and through the woods, without any stops at Grandma’s warm, inviting homestead. Sometimes the journey is familiar and comforting; other times it feels uncertain, even lonely. Either way, it is still ours to walk.

It seems we need more resilience these days, but maybe that’s just our negativity talking. Previous generations fought hard simply to stay alive, to build something solid in the middle of uncertainty, so perhaps we are joining them in that same noble work. We tell ourselves, “Life will get better tomorrow… if I can just get through the crazy today, all will be well.” Yet the tomorrow we imagined rarely arrives on its own...partly because we have chosen our own version of crazy and learned to live inside it.

A new year is upon us, offering a quiet invitation to pause and reflect. What will we do within the confines of our precious days that truly matters? What choices will leave something meaningful behind for future generations? Are we so enamored with checking off one more task and spending just one more hour in the digital universe that we postpone living, promising ourselves a second chance again tomorrow?

Hope, however, is still just around the corner. In a single second, our entire existence can change—for better or for worse. Most of the time, we are given the gift of choice in how it unfolds. The question is whether we will notice it, and whether we will be brave enough to step toward it when the moment arrives.
